The following case studies are representative examples of how Unimacts has taken its expertise in certain products, and combined it with services, to create high value solutions for our customers.
Unimacts delivers a complete solution to one of the largest global Construction Machinery companies. Our relationship started nearly 10 years ago and started small: we provided the engineering support to help them introduce a product to Europe – we converted the US material specs to European specs, we converted the drawings from inches to metric, we performed the finite element analysis on the parts to ensure proper safety factors, etc. From this initial project, we moved into providing actual parts. We started with one product line (iron castings) and one local Unimacts Service Center (Wapato WA USA) serving one customer factory. From there, our partnership grew to multiple products, serving multiple divisions, in multiple locations around the world.
Unimacts partnered with one of the world’s largest wind turbine OEMs to develop an innovative tall tower to open up new markets. Unimacts engineers worked closely with this OEM for nearly 10 years in developing the product. Unimacts provided design for manufacturing (DFM) feedback throughout the development process on many of the parts, including significant work and prototyping of an innovative wind turbine tower fastener. Ultimately Unimacts produced and delivered the entire structure. The project required Unimacts to find factories in the world with the correct machine tools (not many of the machines in the world), modify the bending and drilling machines to meet the extremely tight tolerances, get the factories certified to supply Europe, manage an extremely complex BoM, package and safely deliver the product.
A previous customer, and alternative energy industry leader, was hired as President of the one of the largest solar tracker manufacturers in the world, and asked if Unimacts could do anything to support their Supply Chain improvement efforts. Unimacts took on the supply of many parts of the system which included design for manufacturing work across many of the parts. One of the key parts Unimacts took on was a very high volume, highly engineered beam in the system. Unimacts helped improve the design spec and then wound up designing and building a dedicated factory to support the demand. This included the building, the equipment, the manufacturing processes and the quality systems.
