Position Description
Unimacts is looking for a Production Manager for its Houston, Texas operations. Our employees are “industrial business athletes” and can be effective in many roles, the key responsibility of this person is to both lead and where needed take a “hands on” active role in the development of our US plant and local supply chain capabilities. The Production Manager will direct and manage all plant operations with overall responsibilities for production, maintenance, quality, shipping and receiving and other production-related activities. Assure attainment of business objectives and productions schedules while ensuring product standards that will exceed our customers’ expectations. Foster a well-trained and motivated staff.
Responsibilities
- Ensures the factory environment meets the required safety standards and employees receive the necessary safety training.
- Sets initiatives for and directs Production Supervisors and Plant Floor Employees in housekeeping (5S), training/development, scrap reduction, downtime reduction, quality, compliance with company policies, team development, etc.
- Leads a continuous Process improvement environment.
- Participates in the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of the company quality.
- Plans and directs production activities and establishes production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors. Sets the schedule and is responsible for attainment of same.
- Revises production schedules and priorities as result of equipment failure or operating problems. Determines priorities to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Coordinates production activities with procurement, maintenance, materials, quality control, engineering, customer service, and HR to obtain optimum production output and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment. Responsible for staffing levels and labor tracking.
- Compiles statistics of production data. Reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications, and operating or production problems. Drives corrective actions with action plans.
- Develops and implements operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality.
- Responsible for improving machinery set-up time and product cycle times.
- Recommends improvements to processes, products, services or procedures.
- Maintains adherence to company policies, quality/safety/environmental standards as outlined in roles and responsibilities of ISO 9001/14001/18001 and the GSS integrated management system.
Requirements and Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Strong leadership skills, independent thinking, strong organizational and planning abilities and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.
- Excellent computer skills to include Microsoft Office and Quality Management software.
- Excellent communication skills, bilingual in English/Spanish a plus.
- Sense of urgency and drive to respond to problems and establish systems to minimize either planned or unplanned disruptions of manufacturing.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or Associates with 5 years min. production exp.
- Five years plant/general management experience in a manufacturing durable setting required.
- Experience in Steel Industry preferred.
- Strong experience in Roll forming (tubes rolling and finishing)
- Working knowledge of budgets and financial statements required.
- Experience with Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement preferred.
- Six Sigma certification a plus.
- Experience with SAP systems and manufacturing software experience preferred.
- Experience working with a control quality system (i.e. ISO9001) preferred.
